ActivTrak User Guide

File Types

The ActivTrak viewer allows you to save and open seven different types of files.  The file types, identified by the file extension, correspond to the Window types, with the addition of two file types that represent historical Net Views and Session Tracks.

File Open Dialog (bottom section)

.anv (ActivTrak Net View)

The .anv file contains all the parameters of a particular Net View, allowing you to reopen the Net View for future realtime viewing.  It does not contain actual data reported by the workstations.  Rather, it contains the domains, subnets, filters, column format, and sorting of a Net View window.

.anh (ActivTrak Net View History)

The .anh file contains the data in a Net View window saved at particular point in time. The data can be saved for future viewing, refiltering, or printing.  If when the file is saved, filters are making some rows hidden, the hidden rows are still saved in the .anh file.  That is all data is saved, independent of filters.

.ast (ActivTrak Session Track)

Similar to a .anv file, the ast file contains all parameters of a particular Session Track window, allowing you to reopen the window for future realtime viewing.  It does not contain actual session data reported by the workstation.

.ash (ActivTrack Session Track History)

The .ash file contains the data from a Session Track window saved at a particular point in time. The data can be saved for future viewing, refiltering, or printing.  All data is saved, independent of filters.

.log (Workstation Log)

Workstation Logs saved by the ActivTrak viewer, are pure text files with tab delimited columns. No formating information is included. Nor is any filtering information.  Rows that may are hidden by filters are not saved in the .log file.  It is important to realize that saved .log files can be significantly edited from the original log provided by the ActivTrak Agent.

Because ActivTrak .log files are tab delimited text they can be imported directly into other applications such as spreadsheets.

.jpg (Snapshot)

Snapshot files are saved in JPEG format, and thus are viewable by any .jpeg viewers. ActivTrak specific information is encoded in the JPEG in the form of properties and tags, identifying the user name, the workstation, and the Date/Time the snapshot was recorded.

.ala (ActivTrak Log Analysis)

Data in a Log Analysis window can be saved to a .ala file for future viewing and printing.
